PowerSchool FAQs

PowerSchool Parent Portal

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What is PowerSchool?

A. PowerSchool is our student information system. It allows us to manage information such as grades, attendance, demographics, courses, etc. Since Powerschool is web-based, some of this information can easily, but safely be shared with parents and students.

Q. What is the web address for PowerSchool?

A. The St. Croix Falls PowerSchool portal's address is: https://stcroixfalls.powerschool.com/public/home.html

Q. What can I see on the PowerSchool site?

A. Parents can access the following information: grades for current classes, attendance for the past two weeks or the current quarter, teachers comments, email links to teachers, various reports via email, and the school bulletin.

Q. How do I check my student(s) lunch account balance online:

A . Go to Powerschool Parent Portal (On the left hand side), Click PowerSchool

  1. Enter parent ID & password (Call the school office if you need your student ID numbers. 715-483-2507)
  2. Click on the green $ sign (on the right hand side) this will show your student(s) lunch account charges and deposits, which have been made.

Q. Is this system secure?

A. Absolutely. In fact, your child’s safety and privacy are our greatest priorities. The Parent Portal is hosted through PowerSchool, our secure student information system. Your child’s records can only be accessed by authorized school officials and those with whom you share your password.

Q. Who do I contact for PowerSchool access?

A. Your account was setup automatically by the software. Letters are sent home to parent/guardians with username and password information for your student. If you no longer have that information, please contact the school office to request your student(s) username and password. You will be able to use this to create a Parent Portal Account.

Q. Can I change my password?

A. You control the password for your Parent Portal Account. Should you forget your account password, try to use the email recovery option to re-enable access to PowerSchool. If you still have troubles accessing your Parent Portal Account, please contact the school office.

Q. Do I need a separate login for each of my children?

A. No, with a Parent Portal Account you will be able to link each of your children under one account.

Q. My husband/wife and I are separated/divorced. Can we get another parent username and password for our child’s account?

A. Yes. Each parent would have to individually create their own Parent Portal Account and link their children using the usernames and passwords provided for each child.

Q. Can other people see my child’s grades and information?

A. As long as you protect your password, others will not be able to see your child’s information. Each child is issued a unique identification login and password. Your child’s records can only be accessed by authorized school officials and those with whom you share your password.

Q. What if I want others to have access to my child’s grades (Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles)?

A. If you want others to have access to your child’s grades via the Internet/PowerSchool, you will need to provide them with the login & password that was provided to you in your letter. There will be one (1) login & one (1) password issued for each student. It will be the responsibility of each parent/guardian to distribute (or not distribute) this login/password as they see fit. We recommend that you keep this information confidential and use caution when sharing it.

Q. Where are the directions for PowerSchool parent access?

A. You can download a tutorial that you can print in pdf format. Please see link available on the Parent PowerSchool section of our website. (Note: You will need AdobeReader to view this file.)

Q. I replied to the PowerSchool auto-email with a question, but have not received a response. Why?

A. The PowerSchool auto-generated email is created and sent by the PowerSchool server, not by an individual. The server will not reply to your email sent to that address. If you have questions about your child's progress, please direct those questions directly to the faculty member.

Q. When I click on the teacher’s name to email the teacher, my email program doesn’t work correctly or does not open.

A. Unfortunately, this is not a problem we can help you with since everyone’s email programs are different. Your email program needs to be setup correctly on your computer. You may want to view the HELP area or menu for your email program or contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance.

Q. I can't login to the parent or student portal. I put in my username and password and click submit. After clicking submit, the page reloads to a blank username and password line and does not login. Help?

A. PowerSchool uses "cookies" and this means your internet security is set too high, probably to the highest level of security, which blocks cookies. Depending on your browser, you will need to find the Internet Security area and turn it down a level or two so cookies are accepted. You can find out more information about this by going to your web browser's help menu and doing a search on "cookies" or "internet security."

Q. Do students and parents see the same screens/comments?

A. When students and parents access the PowerSchool server, they see the same information with one exception; parents have the ability to enter their email address and to request automatic progress reports via email.

Q. I have questions about the information found regarding my child’s grades or attendance. Who should I contact?

A. We encourage you to talk with your child about your concerns, if appropriate, and then contact your child’s teacher by phone or by email, if needed.

Q. What do Q1, Q2, S1, Q3, Q4, and S2 stand for?

A. Q1 is the average for Quarter 1. Q2 is the average for Quarter 2. S1 stands for Semester 1. S1 is the average of Quarters 1 and 2. Q3 is the average for Quarter 3. Q4 is the average for Quarter 4. S2 is the average for Quarters 3 and 4. When an average is visible you may click the average to see the assignments that affected the score.

Q. How often are grades updated online?

A. Each teacher uses their own timeline for entering their grades. Feel free to check with your child’s teacher(s) for their policy on how often or when they post grades online.

Q. How do I cancel my Parent Portal account?

A. Contact the school office indicating you would like your Parent Portal account disabled. Be sure to include school, names of students, and homeroom of each student.
